A Comprehensive Study on the Composite with Liquid Crystalline Epoxy and Alumina Filler for Developing Highly Efficient Heat-Dissipating Materials |

Recently, liquid crystalline epoxy resins (LCERs) has been spotlighted as the most promising candidate for developing heat dissipating materials owing to their microscale molecular alignment which efficiently enhances thermal conductivity. In this study, we present the synthesis, fabrication, and characterization of LCER/alumina composites with 4,4-diglycidyloxybiphenol (BP) epoxy. The LCER and curing process with diaminodiphenylsulfone were characterized by the NMR, FT-IR, DSC, TGA, and POM. The thermal conductivity of composites were systematically investigated by preparing series of samples with various epoxy resins and alumina fillers. Notably, the LCER showed approximately 30% higher thermal conductivity compared to the commercial epoxy resins (TMBP and DGEBA) due to highly aligned microstructure. The thermal conductivity of the LCER composite with spherical alumina of 80 wt% was 6.66 W/m.K. The experimental data was theoretically explained by using revised Agari model. |
