Fabrication and characterization of BCP-loaded Chitosan-gluconic conjugate as injectable hydrogel |

The primary purpose of this study was to characterize the main features of a BCP-loaded chitosan-gluconic conjugate hydrogel. Rheological measurements confirm that the chitosan-gluconic conjugate/ BCP composite retain gel form at 37 oC. Sufficient consistency is also reached preventing the mineral granules from migration into surrounding tissues in vivo. Two-syringe design application in vivo improves storage condition and delivery of a fully injectable biomaterial that naturally enhances the osteogenic activity recognized for both chitosan and BCP. Complex formation was confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and the structure was analyzed via optical microscopy. The biodegradation behavior of chitosan-gluconic conjugate with BCP hydrogel was also investigated. Cell proliferation using MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cells evaluated by MTT assay and cell adhesion behavior as observed by confocal microscopy, showed material is biocompatible with great promise as an injectable biomaterial for bone regeneration. |
