Biomineralization refers to the formation of minerals of biological origin. In general, biominerals are known as complex inorganic-organic composites, and their structures have been known to have various size scales from millimeters to nanometers. Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is one of the most abundant and important biominerals present in nature. Challenge is to link macromolecule-crystal interaction to changes in growth mechanism, shape, and kinetics. Understanding the mechanism of their formation envision a meaningful step towards designing biomineral-based advanced functional materials. Herein, We synthesized functionalized hyperbranched polymer (HBP) and utilized them as biomolecular templates to investigate shape, morphology, and growth rate control over CaCO3 formation as functional biomineralization. Results of CaCO3 formation mediated by functionalized HBP will be discussed in the presentation. |
