This study was investigated to test the combustion properties of wood specimen for interior construction, especially focusing on carbon monoxide (CO), which is the leading cause of fire deaths. The quantity of the CO generated was measured by using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. The average yield of carbon monoxide for Western red cedar was 0.0549 kg/kg, 1.1 times higher than that of Needle fir. The carbon monoxide concentration (ppm) of wood specimens was 103-141 ppm, and Western red cedar increased 1.4 times compared with Needle fir. This was observed to increase by 2.1-2.8 times compared with permissible exposure limits of the occupational safety and health administration (OSHA). Western red cedar among the woods have been shown the highest CO toxicity. |
