Antibacterial Property of Silver-Containing Thin Film Composite (TFC) Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane |
초록 |
The silver nanoparticle-decorated silica particles (AgNP@SiO2, ~ 400 nm in diameter) were synthesized to minimize AgNP particle aggregation in the absence of a capping agent. The AgNP@SiO2 particles were strongly immobilized on the membrane surface via multiple Ag-S chemical bonds and uniformly distributed over the entire membrane surface without severe aggregation. The surface coverage of the membrane by AgNP@SiO2 particles was tuned by adjusting the deposition time and concentration. The composite membrane showed an excellent antibacterial property without the decline membrane performance, when compared to that of unmodified membrane. In the antibacterial test, the composite membrane revealed a significant reduction in the number of live bacteria by 92.7 ± 1.8, 99.5 ± 0.3, and 73.3 ± 5.5 for E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and S. aureus, respectively, demonstrating its strong antibacterial properties against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. |
