Boron dipyrromethenes (BODIPYs) usually have good photophysical properties such as high molar extinction coefficients, good fluorescent quantum yields, negligible triplet state formation, narrow emission bandwidths with high peak intensities, and excellent thermal/photochemical stabilities. Various BODIPY derivatives can be synthesized for different applications by the structural modification of the boron-dipyrrin core or by making their dimers and oligomers. In this work, we introduce synthesis of monomeric and dimeric BODIPYs with different alkyl substituents. In addition, we investigated their photophysical properties such as absorption, emission and fluorescence lifetime. Finally, we did ab initio calculations to elucidate their structure and molecular orbital. |
