Preparation and Evaluation of Functional Biomaterials Using Rehmanniae Radix Extract for Cosmetic Materials |

The main objective of this study was to prepare functional biomaterials for cosmetic materials using chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, sulfosuccinic acid as a crosslinking agent, and Rehmanniae Radix extract (RE) as a skin-whitening agent, and glycerol as a plasticizer and to investigate their RE release properties, tyrosinase inhibitory (%), and measurement of antioxidant using DPPH assay. RE from Rehmanniae Radix was extracted with the hot water extraction method. The prepared biomaterials were characterized by FE-SEM and FT-IR. Mechanical properties of prepared functional biomaterials were also investigated. RE release was examined with changes of pH at 36.5 °C. The degree of RE release was also investigated using artificial skin. Results indicated that RE was released constantly for 6 h. In addition, the results of tyrosinase inhibitory and DPPH-radical scavenging activity of functional biomaterials were 50% and 80%, respectively. |
