제목 | Vertical water transport in poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels with different pore structures |
초록 | The water scarcity problem has been worldwide and development of efficient desalinationof seawater has become important. Recently, the research of desalination using hydrogelshave been developed since hydrogels can provide solutions for the problem. Here, wemeasured the swelling and deswelling of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM) hydrogels with various pore structures. PNIPAM hydrogels were synthesized byfree-radical polymerization with N-isopropylacrylamide as a monomer(NIPAM) and N,N-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker. Various methodshave been used to create pores in the hydrogels such as using 3D printedscaffolds as porogens or using DMC (Directional Melt Crystallization) technique. The hydrogelswere also stacked up to measure the water diffusion in the vertical direction.Then we compared the water diffusion rates in the vertical direction accordingto different pore structures and evaluated which pore structure is mostsuitable for the desalination system. |
