Nafion®-Sulfated Titania-Silicon nanocomposite Membranes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells |

Sulfated titania-silicon (SO42-˗TiO2-SiO2) nanocomplex were prepared and characterized by XRD, EDS. A small amount of prepared nanocomplex in the range of 0.5-3 wt% were then reinforced into Nafion® membrane by water assisted solution casting method.Prepared Nafion®˗SO42-˗TiO2-SiO2 membranes showed improved water uptake compared to bare Nafion® membrane whereas, methanol uptake values decreased dramatically indicated the optimal cross linking of the nanocomplex with Nafion® polymer backbone. Improved thermal stability of the prepared nanocomposite membranes were measured by thermo gravimetric analysis. Finally, increased ion exchange capacity (IEC) values were obtained by thermo-acidic pretreatment to the membranes. |
