Synthesis and Characterization of Polycarbonates That Contain Siloxane in Chain Interior and Terminal Position |

Silicone polycarbonates(Si-PC) having polydimethyl siloxane(PDMS) and heptamethyl trisiloxane(HMTS) were synthesised by the interfacial polymerization and characterized. Instead of common chain terminator, eugenol capped HMTS and PDMS was used in the polymerisation. PDMS was also attached into the chain interior of the polymer in different molar ratios. PDMS and HMTS were capped with eugenol through the hydrosilylation reaction using Karstedt’s catalyst. Both monohydroxy terminated and dihydroxy terminated eugenosiloxane were synthesized in order to use as chain terminator and precursor for interior subunit of polymer respectively. Structural characterization and the study of the properties such as thermal behaviour, thermooxidative stability, surface morphology, wettability of the synthesized polymers were performed. |
