Facilitated olefin transport in ionic liquid was verified with potential interactions of propylene with ionic liquids. The interactions were first investigated by quantum mechanical ab initio calculations theoretically, and proved by FT-IR and transient sorption data experimentally. Theexperimental data suggested that the interactions were present and reversible, and the transient sorption behavior of propylene through the ILs was non-Fickian whereas that of propane was well fitted with Fickian transport, imply that the ionic liquids interact with propylene specifically, but not with propane. Finally, the specific and reversible interactions were utilized to separate propylene from its mixtures with propane, where the ILs acted as a novel olefin carrier for facilitated olefin transport. |
