Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on nanocrystalline semiconductors have lots of advantages such as low cost, various colors and easy processing. In DSSC productions, the most time consuming process is coating dye on working electrodes. N719 dye adsorption on a photoanode takes a long time. We have demonstrated a simple dye coating method using a mixed solvent of ethylene glycol (EG) and glycerol. The mixture gives the advantage of fast dye coating. While one of the solvents protects an electrode from air conditions which may cause oxidation of the dye molecules on the TiO2 surface at high temperature. According to our experiments, dye coating time can be shortened down to 5 minutes from several hours without dye degradation. This mixture of the solvents gives a power conversion efficiency of 9.1 % with a short-circuit current density of 15.8 mA cm-2, an open-circuit voltage of 0.81 V, and fill factor of 0.71. Furthermore, this fast dye coating method gives the multi-layer structured devices with more than two dyes by controlling adsorption time and temperature. |
