Structure Parameters and Crystallization Kinetics of Ethylene Copolymers |

We studied the structural variations and crystallization kinetics of ethylene copolymers as a function of the branch type and contents by carrying out time- dependent small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) and wide angle x-ray scattering (WAXS). Our experimental results show that during the isothermal crystallization, the copolymer samples show almost the same coherence length of lamella and lamellar thickness which do not change with time, while the lamellar thickness increases with time for the homopolymer. On the other hand, the noncrystalline layer thickness does not show definite values for copolymers whereas the homopolymer shows well-defined values that do not change with time. Moreover, WAXS and SAXS results suggest that structural properties and crystallization kinetics do not change with the comonomer types (ethyl vs. hexyl branches). |
