Electrochemical CO2 reduction on Ag/Cu2O catalysts |

Electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is a potential approach to realize closed carbon loops in the industries and fossil-fuel power plants. Many researches have focused on designing metal-based catalysts to produce valuable chemicals and fuels via low-temperature CO2 electrolysis. Silver (Ag)- and copper (Cu)-based catalysts have been used for CO2 reduction to multi-carbon (C2+) products and CO, respectively. However, the research on Ag-Cu catalysts and their bimetallic effects on CO2RR is lacking. In this work, we synthesized Ag/Cu2O composites and investigated their performance for CO2RR in a flow cell. The gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) coated with Ag/Cu2O catalysts were used in the tests to obtain high current densities. As a result, the Ag-Cu bimetallic surface tailored selectivities for CO2RR rather than H2 compared to Cu2O catalyst. |
