The membrane technology does not involve phase change when separating gases, it is more energy efficient than other competitive separation technologies. The most widely used membrane is the polymer membrane. However, polymeric membranes have relatively lower permeability and lower thermal and chemical stability than Carbon membranes. Carbon membranes are prepared by pyrolysis of polymeric membrane at high temperature under vacuum or inert atmosphere. Supported membrane mainly uses alumina disk. Because polymeric chains can penetrate relatively large pore-sized alumina disk, the supported carbon membrane requires a making intermediate layer. Therefore, without the intermediate layer, the manufacturing process can be reduced. The solution made by mixing polymer and nanosheets with a wide surface area. The polymer solution mixed with nanosheets was coated on top of an alumina disk. We can make carbon membrane that is about 3μm thickness and has a gas separation performance. |
