We design and synthesize quinolinium derivatives to investigate the electron-withdrawing strength of N-Methylquinolinium. The electron-withdrawing strength of intermediates of derivatives is determined by 1H-NMR analysis. We synthesize various N-Methyl quinolinium and N-Methylisoquinolinuim derivatives (DA-DMQ) with 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (T) using condensation method. First hyperpolarizability of chromophores is measured by Hyper-Rayleigh scattering analysis. Some of chromophores exhibit relatively large first hyperpolarizability compared to benchmark DAST (4-N,N-dimethylamino-4′-N′-methyl-stilbazolium tosylate) crystal. To identify the molecular conformation of DA-DMQ cation, we grow three DA-DMQ crystals, which have another counter anion by slow evaporation, rapid cooling and slow cooling method. We investigate DA-DMQ crystal structures using single crystal X-ray analysis. We also study photophysical properties of DA-DMQ-T analogous by absorption and fluorescence measurement. |
