The conversion of HMF, a biomass-derived material, has been studied as part of the sustainable development of biomass valorization and bio-refineries. Herein, manganese oxide, one of the verified oxidation catalysts, was used as the catalyst for HMF conversion. Manganese oxide of the same morphology was synthesized and investigated how the oxidation state of manganese affects the HMF conversion. Furthermore, how the catalytic activity changes depending on the difference in the reaction environment such as pH or the type of base was investigated. |
