Among various trials to get clean water, forward osmosis method (FO) is recognized as one of the most promising ways. FO uses high-osmotic solution, "drawing solution", to draw water from feed solutions, then solutes of the solution is separated to produce clean water. In this research we selected thermo-sensitive materials as alternative drawing solutes. Some thermo-sensitive materials show 'lower critical solution temperature' (LCST). So they can be used to draw water at low temp. and easily removed after phase separation at high temp. But most thermo-sensitive materials are polymers. Because polymers cannot induce high osmotic pressure, new ones having significantly lowered MW were needed. Derived from the structure of thermo-sensitive polymer, N-acylated tris(2-aminoethyl)amine was synthesized. It has MW of 356g/mol and shows phase separation above ~30℃. Also, to check its possibility of application to FO, osmotic flows at low and high temperature were checked. |
