Hydroxyapatite-Zirconia composite bioceramic coating on Titanium via Micro-arc Oxidation |
초록 |
Artificial Hydroxyapatite (HAp) shows strong biocompatibility and thus it has found broad applications in replacing damaged hard tissues. The artificial HAp, however, suffers from its intrinsic low mechanical properties, and thus cannot sustain heavy load or severe impact. The combination of HAp and zirconia(ZrO2) could be the most desirable for applications to hard tissues exposed under high friction and high impact due to the promising mechanical properties such as high fracture toughness and hardness as well as bioinertness of the zirconia component. In this study micro-arc oxidation (MAO) was employed to achieve the HAp/ZrO2 coating. HAp/ZrO2 films of ~10 to 50 mm thickness were successfully coated on the Ti by a single-step MAO process. The variation in crystallinity of the films was monitored according to the electrolyte temperature change using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were performed to investigate microstructures of the specimens and to analyze the chemical composition, respectively. |
