제목 A synergy between ultrasonication and the polymer matrix in the size reduction of molecular explosive crystals
초록 In the field of explosives, it is significant to lower the sensitivity to prevent unintended initiation by external mechanical stimuli. Nanocrystals of explosives do not contain impurities, and thus ensure low-sensitivity. Also, crystallization in a polymer matrix is advantageous on reducing the size and sensitivity. We apply the ultrasonication and/or polymer matrix medium with quenching for crystallization. Crystallization without ultrasonication or polymer matrix results in crystals of ~50um, meanwhile, performing both of ultrasonication and polymer matrix produces crystals of ~30nm. Thus, we infer that there is a synergy between ultrasonication and the polymer matrix in reducing crystals size. Since polymer matrix limits the spatial growth of cavitation bubble induced by ultrasonication and this limitation leads to a premature bubble implosion. In other words, the polymer matrix enhances ultrasonication effect on the nucleation.
