Hydroxy Terminated Poly(dimethylsiloxane) as an Electrolyte Additive to Enhance the Performance of Lithium-Ion Batteries |

Hydroxy terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS-OH) is used as an electrolyte additive in 1 M LiPF6 in EC/DMC (3:7 vol%) to enhance the electrochemical properties of lithium-ion batteries. In this study it was observed that adding a small amount of PDMS-OH to the standard LIB electrolyte led to an increase in capacity, improved capacity retention of cells during cycling, and increased high rate performance. The use of PDMS-OH as an electrolyte additive had an ionic conductivity of 11.957 mS cm-1 which was an improvement over the bare electrolyte. LSV also exhibited a stable potential window of over 5 V making the electrolyte additive safe for use in most full cell configurations. The improvements gained by using PDMS-OH as an electrolyte additive makes it essential for use in lithium ion batteries |
