Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a phototherapeutic method for destroying tumors by the formation of cytotoxic radicals from photoreactions with irradiation. PDT requires a photosensitizer that can accumulate selectively in tumors and localized irradiation. Also, photosensitizers with relatively long absorption wavelength are suitable for effective photodynamic action. In this study, to explore a new photosensitizer with a good solubility for water and high quantum yields of singlet oxygen, we synthesized the titanyl phthalocyanines with oligo(oxyethylene) groups on the peripheral position. The photophysical properties of the titanyl phthalocyanine derivatives have been monitored by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy together with laser light scattering. In addition to, the radical activities have also been studied by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR). |
