제목 Alternative synthetic studies towards biomass-derived furanic platforms
초록 Current issues of energy and environment prompt us to replace fossil-based resources with renewable ones. 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) has been identified as one of the key intermediates towards these challenging goals. Despite the huge potential for versatile application of HMF, sustainable synthetic routes for its mass production are yet to be developed because of several drawbacks such as ineffective conversion, difficult isolation and relative instability. Numerous studies have been devoted to efficient syntheses of more stable HMF derivatives.
Herein we report a simple and eco-friendly synthesis of 5-acetoxymethylfurfural (AcHMF) that can be used as an alternative of HMF. Our research is mainly focused on acid-catalyzed cyclization of the selectively protected sugar by enzymatic or chemical procedures. Successful functionalization of AcHMF into several value-added HMF derivatives is also achieved.
